About the Director, Finance position:

The Director, Finance oversees all investment related financial activities, including accurate transaction recording, management of multiple investment committees, and preparation of key reports and presentations. This role maintains and updates investment policies and strengthens internal monitoring in partnership with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Outsourced Chief Investment Officer. The Director also works directly with donors and advisors to facilitate contributions of cash, securities, and complex assets. The ideal candidate brings strong investment expertise and clear communication skills. This position is full-time and reports to the CFO.

Essential Job Functions:
  1. Supervision of department activities related to recording of transactions involving investments.
  2. Management of all activities of the Finance and Investment Committee and investment committees of multiple Supporting Foundations (approximately 50), including preparation for meetings, providing relevant data in advance of meetings, preparation of chairs, interaction with various investment consultants and managers, preparation of meeting minutes, and implementation of all decisions reached by the committees.
  3. Leading and participating in review and preparation of documents required for new investments.
  4. Creation of written policies and procedures related to investment-related activities of the Federation, and consistent implementation of all such policies and procedures. Includes maintenance and regular update of Investment Guidelines document.
  5. Preparation of reports on investment related activities to the Board, JFNA (Jewish Federations of North America), and other constituencies.
  6. Presentations regarding investment results to entities invested in Federation investment pools, or entities considering an investment in Federation pools.
  7. Providing regular and complete communication with the CFO regarding investment activities.
  8. Maintaining knowledge of current trends in investment markets and learning about new products and opportunities. Using this knowledge to make recommendations as appropriate.
  9. Developing internal reporting and monitoring capabilities to augment the services provided by the Outsourced Chief Investment Officer.
  10. Engage with donors and their legal and financial advisors to facilitate contributions of cash, securities and non-liquid assets—managing transfers, executing sales and legal contracts, maintaining accurate accounting, and ensuring timely acknowledgment of gifts.
Additional Duties/Responsibilities:
  1. This position includes a Campaign assignment each year.
  2. Other relevant duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills Abilities & Personal Characteristics:

  1. Excellent verbal and written communications skills, with internal and external business partners and employees.
  2. Strong organizational skills.
  3. Demonstrated ability to set priorities and maintain composure under stress. Results oriented.
  4. Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to learn other relevant software systems and databases as needed.

Education, Training and/or Experience:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in finance or a related field.
  2. 5+ years of experience in investment management with supervisory responsibilities.
  3. CFA or CPA preferred.
