Recently, Jason and Allison joined a few other members of the Cleveland cohort on a NYLC world mission study to Cleveland’s sister city of St. Petersburg, Russia and Tbilisi, Georgia to see the impact our Campaign dollars are making. They reflected on what this mission meant to them.

The Jewish Federation of Cleveland will launch the 2020 Campaign for Jewish Needs on Wednesday, August 28 at a special event that will be open to the public at 7:00 pm at B’nai Jeshurun Congregation (27501 Fairmount Blvd in Pepper Pike). The Campaign for Jewish Needs is the Federation’s annual fundraising campaign that raises the critical dollars needed to change and improve lives in Cleveland, Israel, and around the world.

An Israeli comedy troupe called Davai just made its U.S. premiere at Cleveland’s inaugural BorderLight International Theatre + Fringe Festival. And it did so with a remarkable, 90-minute slice of absurdist, non-verbal storytelling and masterful clownery that lives up to the “fringe” in the festival’s title.

The first mention of burial in Jewish tradition is in Vayera when Abraham buries Sarah. Through the Commission on Cemetery Preservation (COCP), a supporting foundation of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland, Jewish Cleveland continues to recognize that honoring those who came before by caring for their final resting places is one of the highest mitzvot we can achieve.

The Jewish Federation of Cleveland’s Overseas Connections Committee (OCC) and the Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI) recently teamed up to bring “248,” an innovative and hands-on program, to North America and Jewish Cleveland.

When Israeli choreographer Ohad Naharin, better known in the dance world as “Mr. Gaga,” ventured to Cuba the dancers of Malpaso Dance Company were somewhat apprehensive. Afterall, Naharin was known to be very demanding. But upon his arrival in Havana, the dancers found him to be very charming.

We are saddened to share the loss of Mark Talisman z"l, a Cleveland native and advocate for Soviet Jews and Holocaust survivors. Talisman represented U.S. Rep. Charles Vanik, the central Cleveland Jewish community member of Congress, for over 10 years, and went on to international prominence. Talisman was the person behind the rescuing of many Holocaust-era torah scrolls that are now placed in almost every Cleveland congregation today.

The Jewish Federation Cleveland recently traveled to Israel with a delegation of nearly 80 business leaders across Greater Cleveland. The mission is designed to show Cleveland leaders the beauty, history, religious and cultural significance, and complexities of Israel. By doing so, these leaders were able to create meaningful connections between one another and with Israel.
