Jewish Clevelander Anna Lowenstein is spending 10 months in Cleveland's sister city of Beit Shean, teaching English to Israeli students through the "Masa Israel Teaching Fellows" program. Read an excerpt from her travel blog below:

Summer Soirée is just 1 week away! We can’t wait to see everyone on Thursday, June 7 to officially kick off summer in style. If you haven’t clicked that “register” button yet, here’s just a few highlights that’s going to make this year’s party our best yet:

Securing our community is one of the top priorities of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland. Thanks to a generous donation from Barb and Abe Miller, the Federation will be distributing 550 Project Safe Classroom Backpacks to Jewish Cleveland classrooms, including all Jewish Cleveland day schools, religious schools, and early childhood centers. Over the course of two days, students from Yavne School for Girls and Fuchs Mizrachi School – Federation beneficiary agencies – as well as members of our Young Leadership Division (YLD) volunteered their time to fill the backpacks with medical and emergency supplies and safety equipment.

Six Jewish Cleveland young leaders recently returned from a once-in-a-lifetime journey, visiting Jewish communities in Morocco and Spain with the National Young Leadership Cabinet (NYLC) Study Mission. The trip, which highlighted the special relationship both countries have with the Jewish people, also helped the group understand the importance of supporting vibrant Jewish communities throughout the globe.

A milestone anniversary calls for a party! To celebrate Israel’s 70th anniversary of independence this year, we’re hosting the first-ever IsraelFest!, a carnival for all ages on Sunday, May 6 from 12 - 5 pm at Mandel JCC’s Safran Park (26001 S. Woodland Road, Beachwood). Parking will be available at the Maltz Mseum, The Temple-Tifereth Israel, Mandel Jewish Day School, and Fuchs Mizrachi School.

Cleveland loves Israel! Thank you to the 1,100+ community members who joined us for an unforgettable night of music at David Broza Live, a Yom Ha'atzmaut (Israel's Independence Day) celebration.
