The 69th Annual Meeting of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland's Community Relations Committee (CRC) featured Wade Henderson, a visionary leader of the human and civil rights movement, as the Sidney Z. With activities like “Flying Eggs” and “Don’t Burst the Balloon,” it’s no wonder students and parents alike walked out of Mandel JDS happy and, more importantly, a little bit more educated. Mandel JDS held their first annual STEM Fair, on Sunday, March 6. The concept of STEM (a acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) took hold of the building as students and parents alike in engaged in 18 different interactive, educational activities.

When Emma and Brandon met and fell in love, their different faiths didn’t stop them from getting married and starting a family.

A palpable feeling of excitement overtook Mandel JDS students and teachers as they trickled into the building on Friday morning, walking under a brand new sign for the first time. The new logo and sign are just two of many changes coming to the school on the heels of the transformative 17 million dollar gift received from the Joseph and Florence Mandel Family Foundation.

The students of Joseph and Florence Mandel Jewish Day School (Mandel JDS) celebrated Yom HaYeled, “Day of the Child,” with their 10th annual Hebrew Spelling Bee, a fun and enriching way for students to build their vocabulary. Students were abuzz prior to the competition, which asks all students to study up to 200 words along with their definitions, competing for exciting prizes along the way.

The Joseph and Florence Mandel Jewish Day School (Mandel JDS) has recently adopted an alternative, innovative curriculum for use in Language Arts and Social Studies classrooms. The curriculum was developed by Facing History and Ourselves, an organization whose mission is to shape a humane, well-educated citizenry that practices civility and preserves human rights.

A reunion! Our Public Education Initiative (PEI) Fellows help oversee the largest literacy tutoring program in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) schools, helping more than 300 K-12 students in eight Cleveland schools learn how to read and write each year.

Rabbi Melinda Mersack, director of jHUB, which connects interfaith families to Jewish life in Greater Cleveland, has been chosen to participate in the Rabbis Without Borders program.
