David and Shaina Leb of Beachwood love being a young family in Jewish Cleveland. Besides spending time with 6-month-old Ari, the newest edition to the Leb crew, David and Shaina like to explore the amazing Cleveland Metroparks and enjoy the different flavors of Mitchell’s Ice Cream.

Q – How do you incorporate PJ Library in your home?

Ari is only 6 months old, but we do our best to make reading a big part of our interaction with him. We both come from education backgrounds and the importance of literacy and introducing the power of reading with children cannot be overstated. The PJ Library books ensure that Ari will always have a new book around, and the Jewish themes and content in the PJ Library texts are just another way of introducing Ari to Jewish life. PJ Library has also been great connecting us to other young families. We love the events we have already attended; it gives us an opportunity to meet other parents and allows Ari to start making some Jewish friends!

Q – What is your favorite thing to do as a family?

We always seem to find ourselves at Peppermint Thai or Mitchell's Ice Cream, and Ari tends to make friends when we are out. We are excited for the spring and summer to go on hikes in the Metroparks and to experience all the summer events and festivals around Cleveland.

Q – What do you enjoy about being Jewish in Cleveland?

We are proud to be members of this community. After growing up in Cleveland and living in Chicago for a few years, we realized how much we missed the close-knit Jewish community at home in Cleveland. In our minds, Jewish Cleveland is a one or two-degree separation community. We either know people directly, or we know we can easily introduce ourselves to the stranger we walk by at the JCC or the person behind us in line for a table at Corky and Lenny's, or the couple we see at a Jewish Federation YLD event. There is comfort in that.
