Former Cleveland Heights resident Alan Gill, the CEO of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, was honored Dec. 11 at a retirement reception attended by more than 200 people in New York City.
Gill was appointed CEO of the JDC, which is a partner of the Jewish Federations of North America and one of the world’s largest Jewish relief aid organizations, in 2012.
He spent 25 years at the JDC, where he was previously the executive director of international relations and expanded the organization’s fundraising capacity. He was named executive vice president emeritus.
Jewish Federation of Cleveland President Stephen H. Hoffman, a longtime friend, lauded Gill for his passion and ceaseless dedication for the welfare of the Jewish people, Israel and building the Jewish future.
The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee is a humanitarian group working in more than 70 countries.
Gill will be replaced by David Schizer, dean emeritus of Columbia Law School and Jewish community leader, effective in January.
