Mazel Tov to Channah Appel, this year’s Irene Zehman Volunteer Award recipient! Channah, who accepted this award at the Women’s Spring Luncheon on May 28, is a hero for Jewish families in need; she provides clothing, furniture, and household goods so they may feel the warmth and support of our Jewish community.
“There are some people in our community who give up their time to make sure that others are cared for and everyone has what they need. There are other people in our community who bring people together, and community build. [Channah] manages to do both, selflessly and seamlessly,” said Rachel Heiser, who nominated Channah for this award.
To help in Channah’s efforts, the Women’s Spring Luncheon social action project garnered three laundry baskets filled with undergarments, and nearly $1,000 in gift cards and checks that were donated to support the community at-large. Thank you to everyone who participated.
In addition to honoring Channah, almost 600 women of our strong Jewish community enjoyed the passion, enthusiasm, and wisdom of featured speaker Debora Spar, President of Barnard College and author ofWonder Women: "Feminism is about community action, helping others, and sisterhood."
