Marci and Liz are two friends who love giving back to the community together! As Co-Chairs of the Winter Break Lunch Program, they serve hot lunches and distribute holiday gifts to children in Cleveland’s most vulnerable areas. Find out how you can join Marci and Liz in giving back this holiday season.

Q - What is your involvement with IMPACT?

For the past six years, we have been the Co-Chairs for the Winter Break Lunch Program through the Federation. The program assists in organizing food and activities for nearly 700 children in the Greater Cleveland area during the two weeks school is out of session. There are several locations around Cleveland we are able to provide the program including the Garden Valley Neighborhood Center, the Harvard Community Services Center, Rainey Institute, and the Five Points Community Center. We have been very fortunate in our lives and we believe in giving back to the community.

Q - What type of volunteering do you look for?

We love having a hands-on experience and direct volunteering where we can make an IMPACT! on others in our own communities. We have been exposed to many volunteer programs; seeing the true need and the rewarding experience for these underprivileged kids and our volunteers is the reason we continue to Co-Chair this program. And we are always looking at ways to expand activities and gift-giving each year.

Q - How do you make an IMPACT with your volunteering?

First and most important is that the Winter Lunch Program helps with children who are at risk for hunger during their winter break when they are not in school. We provide hot lunches to them and their families; but more fun for the kids are the crafts, entertainment, and interaction with our volunteers. To see their smiles and laughter is priceless. Also, providing them with books and holiday gifts is so rewarding.
