Jewish Federation of Cleveland Announces “One Hour a Day” Exhibit Opening
CLEVELAND – The Jewish Federation of Cleveland announces the opening of “One Hour a Day,” an exhibit featuring the work of famed Israeli painter, Shai Azoulay. All are invited to meet the artist, Shai Azoulay, and curator, Trudy Wiesenberger, at an Open House on Sunday, May 17 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. in the Roe Green Gallery at the Jewish Federation of Cleveland’s Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Building, 25701 Science Park Drive in Beachwood. Artist and curator talks will be at 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Azoulay’s exhibit, “One Hour a Day” refers to the time an individual spends each day looking inward. According to the artist, “It is the time to speak to God about private things. It is a chance to be sad, to fix yourself, to set goals and wishes.” Azoulay’s paintings are autobiographical, and much of his work uses allegorical symbols pertaining to ritual, ceremony and mysticism.
An award-winning artist, Azoulay has had solo exhibitions in Tel Aviv, Tokyo, London, and Jerusalem and group shows in Israel, Rome, and New York. He was born in Israel in 1971 and received his BFA and MFA at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem. Azoulay is the recipient of the Bezalel Academy’s Extraordinary Artistic Achievement Award and the Tel Aviv Museum of Art’s Legacy Heritage Fund Prize. He joins us in Cleveland for the debut of his new exhibit, “One Hour a Day.”
