Meet the Curator, Emma Gashinksy at Free Open House
CLEVELAND – The Jewish Federation of Cleveland announces the opening of “Israel: Land & Identity,” an exhibit featuring the artworks from the Levin Collection in Jerusalem. All are invited to meet curator Emma Gashinsky at an Open House on Sunday, November 22 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. in the Roe Green Gallery at the Jewish Federation of Cleveland’s Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Building (25701 Science Park Drive in Cleveland). Curator Talks will be at 2:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
“Israel: Land & Identity” focuses on the ways Israeli identity has been shaped in local and visual culture in the past century by exploring manifestations of the country’s land and landscape – a seminal theme in Israeli art history. A selection of 46 works from the Levin Collection in Jerusalem offers a historical panorama – a mosaic of identities and styles, which indicates a yearning for self-determination, both national and personal, essentially founded on a bond with the land.
