Our Federation family had a great day of giving back during our annual “Day of Caring.” Volunteers were all around Cleveland, doing their part for local foodbanks, nursing homes, and schools. A handful of volunteers chose to venture out to Cleveland Metropolitan School District’s (CMSD) Case Elementary, a Wraparound Services Initiative school, where many students struggle to succeed academically. Students at these schools also might not have enough to eat or a safe place to call home.

Jewish high school juniors and seniors interested in strengthening the Jewish community and making the world a better place are encouraged to apply for the 2015-2016 Maurice Saltzman Youth Panel (SYP), a program of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland.

Meet Sivan. She’s a Cleveland native, but this summer she’s living and interning in Israel! Sivan is a participant with Onward Israel Cleveland, a program that allows 20-25 year olds to spend their summers living and interning for 8 weeks in Tel Aviv. YLD beat the heat with volunteering at Maggie's Farm! Our most recent YLDay of Caring took us to Gordon Square, where we got our hands dirty weeding the vegetable garden, planting mushrooms, and constructing a greenhouse. Thank you to all of our enthusiastic volunteers for joining us for another meaningful and successful event!

July 30 is the perfect day to wear white. It clearly falls between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Imagine how dispiriting it would be to visit the grave of a relative only to find the gravestone toppled and engulfed in grass so tall that the name on the stone is barely legible.

Soldiers from the Israel Defense Forces uncovered similarities in their work with troubled youth during a visit to Bellefaire JCB in University Heights on April 24. The soldiers, who were visiting Cleveland for a week to participate in Yom Hazikaron and Yom Ha’atzmaut ceremonies in the area, engaged in a professional exchange of ideas with Bellefaire employees and mental health professionals during their time at the facility.
