The Jewish Federation of Cleveland played host in February to a delegation of 21 top Jewish communal professionals from Cleveland’s sister city of St. Petersburg, Russia. Close to 20 years ago, Cleveland entered into a strategic partnership with the Jewish community of St. Petersburg to help sustain and renew Jewish life. The purpose of this visit was to learn how to utilize lay leaders as partners to set community priorities and meet current and future needs, a novel concept to those in Russia. The gathering also permitted the exchange of ideas concerning leadership, culture, politics and things both lofty and mundane.

And thanks to our recent Cleveland Israel Arts Connection intern, Cory Irwin, we are able to learn the stories behind each piece. During his six month internship, Cory cataloged the art collection and researched the history of each piece.

As you know, Steve Hoffman has decided to retire on December 31, 2018 after almost 35 years as our president. Since making this announcement earlier this year, the Search Committee has been working with Deborah Smith, a long-time consultant to Jewish Federations of North America who has assisted numerous Jewish communities through the process we have begun. We also have recently retained Howard & O’Brien, an executive search firm based in Cleveland, to help vet candidates and manage our deliberate, thoughtful, and seamless leadership transition process.

Volunteers are needed for the Annual Spring Cemetery Cleanup hosted by the Jewish Federation of Cleveland’s Jewish Volunteer Network and the Commission on Cemetery Preservation (COCP). Join us on Wednesday, April 11 at 7:00 pm at Park Synagogue Main, 3300 Mayfield Road in Cleveland Heights. This annual event is free and open to the community.
