Leadership Briefing from the Jewish Federations of North America

In response to the rejection of a flawed resolution at the United Nations Security Council on Palestinian statehood, The Jewish Federations of North America praised President Obama and his administration for its commitment to the security of Israel. Michael Siegal, chair of JFNA's board of trustees, issued the following statement:

“The dangerous resolution put forth before the United Nations Security Council today would only have caused further, perhaps irreparable, damage to the pursuit of peace between Israel and the Palestinians. We at the Jewish Federations applaud President Barack Obama, UN Ambassador Samantha Power, Secretary of State John Kerry and the entire Obama administration for their dedication in ensuring that this flawed effort would not succeed. It was the United States’ vote against the resolution that ensured its rejection and we are deeply grateful for this administration’s efforts in defense of the Jewish state of Israel.

“As Vice President Joe Biden said before thousands of representatives from Jewish Federations across the country less than two months ago, ‘There is no friend of Israel like the United States of America and Israel has no friend like the United States.’ Today we yet again saw how truly profound that promise and commitment remain.”
