Systems Engineer

About the Systems Engineer Position:

The Systems Engineer is responsible for a broad range of tasks related to the overall design, installation, maintenance, enhancement, optimization, security, and documentation of Federation's network and systems. The Systems Engineer will actively monitor, diagnose, and resolve systems issues, optimize system performance, provide hands-on day-to-day support, and implement infrastructure improvement initiatives. Preferred candidates are continuous learners, possess a strong work ethic, and have experience managing network environments which minimize operational issues and maximize security.

Essential Functions:

Operational

  • Maintain an understanding of all parts of the Federation’s IT infrastructure and systems
  • Implement and maintain network systems using industry best practices, working with external vendors as needed
  • Manage tasks to completion and assist with project management as needed
  • Manage and improve network security capabilities and solutions
  • Respond to and resolve escalated issues
  • Assist with IT audits and system backups and recovery

Research

  • Stay current on latest technology and information security trends and make recommendations for potential use at the Federation
  • Work closely with Federation's IT service providers to evaluate recommendations

Documentation and Planning

  • Collaborate with your peers and management to assess short and long-term network and systems needs
  • Define and scope improvement & maintenance projects
  • Create and maintain documentation for all relevant systems and changes
  • Assist in the preparation of RFP's and RFQ's

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science/Engineering, or similar field of study
  • 5+ years of experience in network/systems engineering
  • Certifications in one or more of the following: relevant Microsoft technologies, VMware, networking, or information security
  • In-depth understanding of TCP/IP networking including switching, routing, VLANs, DNS, and wired/wireless connectivity
  • Microsoft Windows network management including Windows Server 2016 and 2019, Active Directory, and Group Policy
  • Managing Windows workstations in a Windows domain and scripted languages; PowerShell experience is a plus
  • VMware ESXi 6.5 or higher, including clustering, high availability, and vSAN
  • Configuring and administrating advanced firewalls
  • Strong understanding of information security best practices
  • Experience with Office 365 management and administration, including Exchange Online, Mobile Device Management, Teams, OneDrive, and Azure AD

Preferred Qualifications:

  • VOIP phone systems
  • Hosted/Cloud infrastructure solutions
  • Understanding of SDN fundamentals
  • Backup and Disaster recovery solutions
  • Project management experience

  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and deliver on time
  • Ability to work well in a remote or in-person team environment
  • Ability to perform after-hours and periodic weekend work and adhere to an on-call schedule.
