Chief Financial Officer
Chief Financial Officer position:
The Chief Financial Officer (“CFO”) serves as part of the senior management team and directly supports the top professional officer on the local, national, and overseas agenda.
Essential Functions:
1. Supporting the President with financial data and guidance, vision, and strategic thought. Participates in Senior Management Team. As required, may also
- Participate in discussions or negotiations with local agencies/synagogues.
- Interact with Jewish Federations of North America or Israeli entities on national/international issues.
2. Interpreting financial performance to lay leadership and professional management.
3. Establishing and maintaining a climate of trust and serving as a trusted advisor to lay leadership, donors and professional management.
4. Overseeing
- management of Federation’s assets including cash, investments, and real property
- financial and tax reporting
- budgeting
- internal and external audit process

- Federation and agency risk management

- Federation business operations
5. Supervising the Fiscal Department staff and the Chief Information Officer.
6. Participating in national leadership amongst Financial Officers in the Federation system.
7. Coordinating all legal matters
- Maintains relationships with all firms providing legal counsel to Federation.
- Negotiates contracts, settlements, or other legal issues as needed.
8. Supporting Resource Development
- Ensures efficient, timely financial reporting and support of all financial resource development efforts.
- Ensures that the Fiscal Department staff provides excellent donor services.
- Reviews proposed agreements and other matters for planned giving vehicles and donor advised funds and generally facilitates gift acceptance process in coordination with the Endowment staff, Business Manager or Director of Finance.
- Accompanies Development Officers on donor visits, with donors as needed.
- Builds relationships and stewards certain donors based on relationships built over time.
- Participates on Special Gifts team during Campaign.
- Stays current on developments in the field of planned giving.
Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:
- High level of written and oral communication
- Knowledge of the nonprofit sector
- Strong analytical, problem resolution and negotiation skills
- Ability to interact effectively and professionally with colleagues, professional advisors, donors, and volunteers
Education, Training and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration
- Master’s degree or equivalent experience
- Experience with and knowledge of investments
- 10+ years of progressively responsible experience
- Experience partnering with an executive team
- Fundraising experience or willingness to participate in fundraising
