Systems Engineer position:

The Systems Engineer is responsible for a broad range of tasks related to the overall design, installation, maintenance, enhancement, optimization, security, and documentation of Federation's network and systems. The Systems Engineer will diagnose and resolve networking issues, provide hands-on day-to-day support, and implement infrastructure improvement initiatives. The position reports to the Director of IT Operations. Preferred candidates are continuous learners, possess a strong work ethic, and have experience managing network environments which minimize operational issues and maximize security.

Essential Functions:

Operational Management
  1. Maintain an understanding of all parts of the Federation’s IT infrastructure and systems
  2. Implement and maintain network and systems using industry best practices, working with external vendors as needed
  3. Manage tasks to completion and assist with project management as needed
  4. Manage and improve information security capabilities and solutions
  5. Respond to and resolve escalated issues
  6. Assist with IT and security audits, and system backups and recovery
Research and Deployment
  1. Stay current on latest technology and information security trends and make recommendations for potential use at the Federation
  2. Work closely with Federation's IT service providers to evaluate recommendations and be a key member of the implementation team
Documentation and Planning
  1. Collaborate with management to assess short and long-term network and systems needs
  2. Define and scope major improvement & maintenance projects
  3. Create and maintain documentation for all relevant systems and changes
  4. Assist in the preparation of RFPs and RFQs

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:
  1. In-depth understanding of TCP/IP networking including switching, routing, VLANs, DNS, and wired/wireless connectivity
  2. Microsoft Windows network management including Windows Server 2008 R2 and 2012, Active Directory, and Group Policy
  3. Managing Windows workstations in a Windows domain and scripted languages; PowerShell experience is a plus
  4. VMware ESXi 5.5 or higher, including clustering and high availability
  5. Storage Area Networks (SANs); NetApp experience is a plus
  6. Configuring and administrating advanced firewalls
  7. Strong understanding of information security best practices.
  8. Office 365 management and administration, including Exchange Online, Mobile Device Management, and document collaboration preferred
  9. VOIP phone systems; ShoreTel experience is a plus
  10. Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, hosted/cloud infrastructure solutions, and disaster recovery solutions desired
  11. Project management experience helpful
Education, Training and/or Experience:
  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or similar field of study, or equivalent experience required
  2. 5+ years of experience in network/systems engineering
  3. Certifications in one or more of the following: relevant Microsoft technologies, VMware, networking, or information security
  4. Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to approach work creatively
  5. Ability to juggle multiple projects and deliver on time
  6. Ability to interface with all levels of the organization (both technical and non-technical)
  7. Strong organizational, written and verbal communications, and interpersonal skills
  8. Self-motivated with ability to work independently under minimal supervision
  9. Ability to work well in a team environment
  10. Ability to perform after-hours and periodic weekend work
